Applications for Student Finance open from March each year, and students are encouraged to apply as early as possible to avoid delays.

Applying by the priority deadline helps ensure funding is in place for the start of term. While it is still possible to apply after this date, late applications may result in delays to receiving your funding.
Apply early to avoid delays
Last year, almost half (45%) of new applications were received after the deadline. Students in London had the highest proportion of late applications at 57%, followed by the West Midlands at 48%.
Applications typically take six to eight weeks to process, so applying early gives you peace of mind and allows you to focus on preparing for your course.
After you apply
- There is no need to contact SLC unless you are asked to do so
- You can track your application through your online account
- You will be notified if any further information is required
- Processing times are typically six to eight weeks
SLC customer service teams prioritise processing applications to ensure students receive their funding at the start of term.
